I think I take complaints more seriously when I don’t hear much emotion in the speaker’s voice. If someone sounds whiny, or angry, or seems to be pushing some victim narrative, I take the actual complaint less seriously. I think you can also hear the difference between a novel complaint and an often repeated one. If you want to be taken seriously, don’t ham it up and don’t complain all the time.

More like an observation than anything. The study showed that people from Quebec sound angrier when complaining, whereas people from France sound sadder.
