Revolution's canceled until people can tell the difference between the bourgeoisie and their neighbor who works a white collar job and has a nice car.

Your neighbor does not own the means of production, chief. Nobody gets to build a guillotine until you can be trusted not to gut the dentist down the street for having throw pillows.

@CactuarJoe i forget, what was that distinction? Wealthy vs. Rich.
The gap between 100k a year Wealthy vs. Goddamn billions rich eludes some folks.
Hell some people think 40k a year is opulent. Fuck off.

@xerozohar The distinction is actually being in control of production. Like, a factory owner vs. a manager with a very high salary. The former controls how much gets made and what it costs while sucking up excess value from the people they employ, while the latter has a lot of money and no real control.
But yeah, people look at someone making a lot of money and think that's the problem, not the guy who actually owns shit.

@CactuarJoe @xerozohar It’s also worth nothing (without getting into Leftist Wankery) that if somebody owns a small, independent, business (like your local-take-out-restaurant-with-the-family-table) that’s not it either. Sure they own “The Means” in that they run the restaurant, and might even own the building, but unless they get so successful that they start franchising, they’re still closer to The Worker than they are The Capitalist, despite flashy cars, etc.
( I think…again, this is nearing Leftist Wankery and my mind often shuts down when that happens)

@LastContinue @xerozohar True. It's important to remember we're talking about the people who control what gets made and what stuff costs, not just people who sell things.

@CactuarJoe even though you listed my least favorite medical specialty, you're not wrong about there being a misunderstanding here. I suspect that is by design so that Jamie EveryPerson also hears about increasing taxes on the wealthy and thinks the surgeon or the CPA who owns their own business is the target, not people making hundreds of millions of dollars let alone billions.
We probably could have avoided the brinksmanship with better communication and education.

Yeah, time to mute replies on this one. >_>

@CactuarJoe Yeah, basically this forever?
People get real French revolutionary for all of their lack of knowledge of French history. I'm not saying I'm an expert, but it's a fun exercise to count the number of generations between beheading Marie Antoinette and France having something akin to a stable Democratic government.
People always thinking that their thing is going to be like George Washington, when history suggests that the probability is it's a lot more like Pol Pot.

@mark @CactuarJoe Reminder that the slogan "Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite" was first coined in July 1790; by November 1793 they'd progressed to guillotining feminists (Olympe de Gouges, author of the Declaration of the Rights of Woman and the Female Citizen). Revolutions often eat those they ostensibly serve.

This post has been very useful for finding people to block.
"Okay but it's the rich people's fault for not being communist to start with"
"Ha ha yeah, dentists amirite?"
"What about [x group]? Can I murder them? How about [y group]? Look just tell me who it's okay to kill."
