Lesson learned: if you try to update a Steam game over Steam Link, it select dowload servers based on where the *remote* connection is.
So my midwest PC was trying to use a server on the other side of the country instead of one nearby
Turning on the download and then ending Steam Link and letting it go fixed it

Feeling honored to have been present at the premiere of my 1 year old niece's new three hour avante-garde harsh noise symphony. Being trapped in a moving Ford Focus (or some damn thing) for the whole thing really maximized the impact of the whole piece.

Went to Bandon beach for the day. Some great galleries and things, excllent seafood. Was going to go swimming but it was like 64f down by the sea. Which is a little insulting given it's over a hundred only a dozen or so miles inland.
