It’s not too different in person. Once someone gets defensive, you’ve pretty much lost them. If you’re lucky they’ll go home and stew and maybe realize you were right. I’ve always found the real way to sway people is to ensure they never realize that they’re in an argument. “I agree but here’s why I don't” works better than people think.
