@beatrixizumi789 in the popular conscience, the fediverse IS just Mastodon, and most people have a very traditional, centralized view of the web. So mastodon’s flagship server is where they end up, because you know, thats mastodon. That GTS, Sharkey, and others exist, and that other servers exist and are truly autonomous is a foreign concept.
It’s the best advertised and most well known. I tend to think it’s often a dumpster fire but that’s just me. -

@beatrixizumi789 pretty much just that; big internet problems. I don’t care for the culture either. The majority of rude people I’ve encountered on the fediverse has been from there. Lots of “I just want twitter without Musk” people.
I also think a giant, critical sized server like mastodon.social is anathema to what the fediverse is trying to accomplish, and the mastodon.social leadership are willfully blind to this. They should forcibly split the damn thing and live their values.
