On my desk, I have a typewriter that is considered a 'portable'. I even have the suitcase it came with. It's cast iron and could brain a rhino if thrown.
Growing up, my dad managed to get one of those IBM laptops, which was still a chonky beast. It was advertised being portable, and weighed a good 8kg not counting case.
So it;'s kinda wild to me that every laptop review talks about weight, and inevitably bitches about one model being like, 0.5-1 kg more than another. Especially given that the machines in question top out at like, 2-3kg in general. Like holy shit, modern electrics are feathers, what are you even complaining about? -

You use heavier materials and struts, which add weight. I'd happily take a heavier, sturdier laptop over something that bends.
