      @ShadowJonathan I've had someone show up in my mentions with an encyclopaedic knowledge of fountain pen restoration and repair, help me successfully nurse a vintage fountain pen back to life and then promptly disappearing into the ether, this is the sort of thing we are missing out on.

                              Walking out of the bathroom at a house party and going up to the host to say "you know how the handle on your toilet jiggled a bit and needed to be held in just the right way to flush? It's fixed now." is one of my favorite things.

                                  @ShadowJonathan I 100% would go door to door updating OpenStreetMap fulltime if I could afford to, socioeconomically.

                                  This obsession spawned out of maps not updating fast enough in Portland 20 years ago to reliably run a courier service and kinda getting screwed by that, ultimately leading me to learn about and start contributing to OpenStreetMap just to have accurate navigation in a city that was changing the street grid daily.

                                    There's a very good reason why Republicans attack the non-conformists, be they the unmarried woman, LGBTQ, non-Christian, POC, or immigrants...

                                    ... to build a whites-only ethnostate that serves solely the greed of billionaires, they need to cull the different & encourage eugenics movements.

                                    Why is the GOP escalating attacks on trans rights? Experts say the goal is to make sure evangelicals vote

                                    The recent blitz of anti-trans bills may not align with what many Republicans believe, but party lawmakers pursue them on behalf of their most important interest group.

                                        @AnachronistJohn @ShadowJonathan This reminds me of David Graeber's Bullshit Jobs theory. Jobs which are useful (shit jobs) don't get paid because the people doing them are supposed to live on the warm glow of doing actually useful things with their lives. Meanwhile the jobs with pay don't help anyone and don't need to exist (i.e. are bullshit jobs)

                                          @ShadowJonathan Yes, I am such a person!
                                          I would love to build things to fix little issues people keep having, that aren't worth mass-producing, so never get made.
                                          In addition, I would love having a little space in my community, where people come to get their stuff fixed or learn how to do it themselves. I'd love to teach all sorts of things, useful or not.
