I’m honestly not sure what to say to the Europeans and other non-Americans posting a lot on Lemmy lately, who seem to think all Americans - even those who have opposed every Trump action and have despised Trump since the 90s - are individually to blame for Donald Trump.
I’m like: Imagine everyone around you decided you were going to be married to an abusive spouse. You never agreed, yet sure enough, one day you woke up legally married to, and having to live in the same house with, a delusional, malignant narcissist abuser. No divorce possible, consent was never required after all. And if you tried to ask for help, your neighbors - who want you to know they absolutely hate abusers! - would spit at you and say, “Take care of your own problem!”

I agree, but the ability to strike in America was purposefully neutered. The only real way to strike effectively would be, at best, extra-legal, if not outright illegal. It’s not like most of the civilized world. The “leader of the free world” has made it very hard for the citizens to freely stand against it.

The only reason anybody ever had the right to legally strike was due to illegally striking. You’re not worse off than early 20th century trade unionists who literally fought private militias and the military. You know its even worse than that - fascist or fascist adjacent parties are leading in polls in the UK, France, and Germany simultaneously. Canada and Australia only avoided electing mini trumps as a response to trump. And that’s only speaking of the larger countries. When I hear someone on here go off about how the “world” has always known the US is just bad I’m amazed. Can you not see what is happening in your own countries? International capital is making its move, and something is happening across the democratic world.
Cribbing this from some tumblr i saw: “My wish for 2026 is that Europeans will be as critical and vigilant about authoritarianism and racism in their own country as they are about them in the U.S. and that Americans will be as critical and vigilant about authoritarianism and racism in the U.S. as Europeans are.”

The world doesn’t need to go to war, it needs to stop being afraid of a major economic downturn.
Stop everything with the US: trade, travel, everything. Deport all Americans back to their native soil. Isolate them, and see how quickly things change.
While we’re at it, do the same with Russia and Israel. And maybe China?
Would it cause a global economic crisis? Probably. But people are already dying—it’s worth it if we can actually end a genocide and a couple wars.
So much this. Just 100% stop all trade with the United States. All of it. And zero travel. Then ban US travel to your country. Give them the isolation they crave.
