Not sure how I'm expected to continue being civil with folks who happily voted for all this and are only now pissy about it because everything we told them would happen is coming true and it's affecting them.

Like, assume the Nazi threat is put back in its bottle one day. How do I go back to building a society with these folks? How do you trust them again? With literally anything?

@valthonis main brain brings me back to this point a lot.
People that have zero empathy, and that can only change their mind when it impacts them, seems utterly outside of what buulding a requires.
So how do you build a society with them?
When you build a society outside of them, they do their best to destroy it.
It feels hard to build a society around them (I guess this is presupposedly what happened after WWII when we got free education, free healthcare etc.) -

@valthonis I can live with people who admit they were wrong. A sincere mea culpa and doing the work that comes next goes a long way with me.
But anyone who actually does that is going to have their club card pulled and be screaming from the sidelines with the rest of us.
I barely got right with the Democrats after we were "right for the wrong reasons" after The War on Terror. I can't do it again.

@valthonis maybe I’m wrong for feeling and thinking this way, but IMO, you don’t.
It’s not our responsibility to extend the branch and offer them forgiveness and trust. They must accept what they have done, take responsibility for it, sincerely apologize, and then seek, work for, and earn forgiveness. We can try to help them navigate that if we choose to, but we are not required to do so.
