@MiaWinter@tech.lgbt @ielenia@ck.catwithaclari.net After poking around; people who marry canadian citizens still have to go through the same nationalization process as anyone else: however, marriage allows the canadian citizen to be the Sponsor for the prospective citizen.

You've probably already thought of it, but if you haven't: If your partner is willing, consider just getting a quick court-witnessed marriage. It seems like the process is relatively the same in Canada as the US: File for a marriage license, then go down to the court house and schedule a hearing with your witness(es). Generally courts do these once a week in groups. I was a witness for one of these and it was pretty quick and straight forward.
You can hold a public ceremony later, and you can have whoever you want be the officiator since they don't need to legally witness the marriage. In the mean time you can get the paperwork rolling
