    world's least sensationalist headline.

    1) it was in maintenance
    2) the paid app is from codeweavers and is a one time license.
    3) the developer specified that unlike the paid app whisky didnt really contribute much back to wine

this article actually fully encapsulates the distinct lack of nuance seen on the fediverse when it comes to certain controversial technologies. it feels like it was written to start internet drama

re fediverse sensationalism: It gives me constant fits that people don't contextualize what they're talking about, creating fake information and FUD. This is especially bad with instances that have small text-limits, because the fidelity of information just gets worse through every hand it passes through.

Re This incident: I remember reading the author's blog and finding it reasonable. It was going to be controversial though because people have some weird expectation that a single FOSS maintainer owes them something more than Jack and shit in regards to their time. Whisky remains GPL software on github. Someone else can fork it if they disagree with the author's stance.

Re Cynical note: people complaining about the cost of CrossOver bought a luxury-minded machine that runs a proprietary OS that pretty much demands that developers fork out cash to develop software for, and is thus known for its paid-software ecosystem. What exactly did we think was the expectation here?
