Time for an intro!

Time for an intro! I'm a Kansan*, a knitter, a gamer, a reader, and I'm trying hard to raise a son who has empathy and critical thinking skills.
I am really happy to be on toot.cat and I'm looking forward to learning my way around a new-to-me server.

@AngelaPreston I’ve never visited Kansas. I have exactly 3 points of reference:
1. The Wizard of Oz
2. Bob Dole
3. In Cold BloodAlthough, sometimes when I’m with my wife’s relatives in Metamora, IL, talking about the weather, John Deere equipment, and which route we took to drive there (we came down 116, not 89, so we didn’t pass by the Schrock farm which had some damage from the tornado last summer), I imagine that somewhere in Kansas, there’s a similar conversation happening.
(I grew up in Boston and thought I knew everything, only to learn I knew nothing!)

@billd Pretty good points!
I grew up in the vicinity of Holcomb. We ran a cross country meet there when I was in school.
Bob Dole came on a listening tour to my town once upon a time but I didn't get to meet him.
I live about 20 minutes away from the Wizard of Oz museum (it's in Wamego).
We also have the Cosmosphere down in Hutchison which is pretty cool.
Mostly it's a lot of wheat and sunflowers around here, and we've supposedly been scientifically proven to be flatter than a pancake (though I am not sure their methodology was entirely correct).
I've been to Chicago but that's the extent of what I've experienced of that great state. I went to Shedd Aquarium, walked around Navy Pier, visited The Bean, and had some pizza. I've yet to visit Boston but it's on the list!
(and yes that conversation you described could easily take place here!)
