      @cstross I have often suspected that their mental, emotional, and future-visional development were set by the books in their high school library (so lots of Heinlein YAs and suchlike things) and has not been examined or interrogated since. Nor compared to reality to see what's actually possible, either.

      Bathing in unexamined cliches doesn't end well, unfortunately often for the uninvolved (or un-responsible, at least).

        I once read a quote that people stop maturing mentally when they first get rich.

        And I think that there is a lot of truth to that.
