@juergen_hubert Yeah the very specific details like opening and closing windows, the times involved, and the ritual built up the truly horrifying reveal and brought the whole thing to an awful kind of life. There's even a mini-folklore of its own tucked inside with the young monk not being morally pure enough to withstand the ghost's challenge and the old monk having to take over. A masterclass in horror storytelling.

The latter part is pretty common in German folk tales featuring exorcism - the evil spirits often seem to know the past sins of exorcists, and will use that knowledge to claim that they have no power over them.
Either the exorcist can explain the sin away due to extenuating circumstances, or they need to fetch a purer person to do the job.
