Just downloaded a copy of Lords of Creation (1983) from some sketchy PDF site. I owned it eons ago but haven't had my copy around forever and wanted to look at it again.

The illustrations, a lot of them, are hilariously, endearingly awkward. There's a whole section of animal people in the Foes Book which is just different animals' heads on scantily clad male and female bodies clearly copied from cheesecake or muscle magazines. Wild.

Don't get me wrong, the artist is very competent and a lot of the illos are quite excellent, it just strays into bonkers territory sometimes

I really appreciate this kind of art, actually. It’s sincere, someone sharing their art with the world because they made it, with an audience that wants to see what they made.

The only time it gets really uncomfortable to me is when they want to share their cruelty. I’ve generally found that, with a few exceptions, that attitude soaks in when the parodic content turns sincere with the promise of capital. (Looking at you, 40k…)

@edheil I have all the LoC stuff and it's bonkers. I've never quite understood how Omegakron and the Horn of Roland were all meant to connect (allegedly) and the character generation is surreal.

But the comedy-cooper-bold font choice for the apocalypse type background bit blew my mind

The scenarios did some in nice little boxes with props though

@edheil Yes, that was pretty rare for a game from that era.. like almost unheard of. That's why I mentioned it.

We take things like that as normal now, but back in the early 80s it was .. odd

Imagine being able to play The Yeti Sanction straight out of the box.

Then stop imaging that quite quickly.

@Printdevil lol a friend of mine has very fond memories of Lords of Creation, I wonder if I can get him to play it.

I never played it back in the day, just owned it.
