THERE’S A NEW OCEANHORN OUT NOW!!!Oceanhorn 3: Legend of the Shadow Sea is now available exclusively on Apple Arcade. What’s the big deal? This is, in my opinion, the best Zelda-like series ever made. And I’ve played many of them. But this one truly stands out. Also, I think this is the only time that an Apple exclusive has been as good as a major console game. And I think they featured footage of Oceanhorn 3 gameplay with the MacBook Neo announcement. https://apps.apple.com/ca/app/oceanhorn-3/id1539411904

When working magic suggested by the Devil, it is wise to follow the instructions _precisely_.It would be wiser still not to work such magic at all.#Germany #folktale #folklore #magic #Devil https://wiki.sunkencastles.com/wiki/The_Freisch%C3%BCtz_(Marne)

I have now played over 50% of games I bought in 2016. And I won’t lie. Many of those titles are absolute junk. As in, they don’t even merit a conversation. I find them so unbearable, I have a hard time even playing them for 10 minutes. How did I get myself into this mess? At the time, I had an obsession with hidden gems. Little did I know that the reason they were hidden was because they were trash.

I hate the phrase “paradigm shift”. But god damn it, that’s what’s been happening over the past five years in gaming—and the media has barely been paying attention. The powers-that-be are trying to push cloud gaming as the next innovation. It’s actually Linux. I’m not just talking about SteamOS or Bazzite or Nobara. Because yeah, this has been driving adoption of desktop Linux, no doubt. But I have an arcade cabinet. What does it run? It’s basically a Raspberry Pi running Batocera Linux. All navigable with a joystick and those big buttons. I also have a cheap Game Boy-like handheld. What does it run? ArkOS. Why’s this a big deal? Because while emulation is the key selling feature, these devices also have native ports. That’s right, PC game running on cheap ARM devices. And it’s only going to get cheaper because Valve is pioneering Fex, which is basically Proton for ARM. Which basically means gaming is going to get way more affordable.

This book showed up in my recommendations on my Kobo account months back and the title really intrigued me. It also fit in with the attention I’ve been giving the Zero to Well-Read podcast diving anew into classic literature. As I read through stuff like The Maltese Falcon and books from the various inspirational media lists from RPGs I have, I’ve started thinking more about the literary analysis I did in high school and college English classes and how I might make use of those skills while drawing inspirations for my games from my own reading. To clarify, I read the Third Edition of the book from 2022.While the topic of literary analysis might evoke images of stuffy university lecture halls and the One True Symbol we were taught to seek in Great Literature, the book reads more like a discussion over drinks with your buddy who happens to teach English at the local college. The chapters have names like “When in Doubt, it’s from Shakespeare” and “Never Stand Next to the Hero.” The tone is informal and, like the chapter titles, occasionally quippy.I really like some of the advice like “if you think you see a symbol, you probably do,” or the discussion of how when you read a book it ends up in a discussion with all the other books you’ve read. Foster also uses a great mix of classic Canon books and more modern reads to illustrate how to use literary analysis to get more out of your reading.Overall, I had a lot of fun going through the box of tools. There’s a lot here about how to use weather and specific tropes to evoke a certain mood and response. I think there’s a lot here that’s good for a game master looking to draw more and better inspiration from what they read. Or just the reader looking to get more meaning from their books. It’s approachable in tone. It breaks the tools down simply and gives examples. There’s a lot of trust of the reader here. I really enjoyed it.

@64bithero This may be true, though with RAM and SSD prices rising big time, it’s hard to say.

Blue Fire is still a sore spot of contention for me. Because I had this on Stadia. But then Google took it away from me when they shut Stadia down. I’ve been patient, though, waiting for a steep discount. And last month, when it was part of a bundle deal, I swooped in and bought it. Doesn’t perform well on Steam Deck, barely getting over 30fps. Thankfully, I have an Alienware with a 3090, so I’ve been able to play it at max settings in all its glory. So here’s the irony. While streaming was why I lost this game, streaming is also why I’ve been appreciating it again. Because I’ve been streaming Blue Fire from my Alienware to my Steam Deck, and it’s been excellent. This is a wonderfully approachable 3D metroidvania that’s easy to pick up and play, and worth experiencing.

@AT1ST From what I hear, Sony will be re-entering the handheld market. And this won’t merely be a Portal. It will be a revival of the PSP. And again, this is a defensive move since Nintendo, Microsoft, and Valve all have their own handhelds. The big question is whether or not they’ll revive PlayStation TV because, yeah, they need some sort of integration with their Smart TVs.

In order to get an insane NPC to spill his secrets, the party members had to imbibe one the concoctions on his belt that was sacred to his order. Imbibe isn’t really the story though. Essentially this was glowing purple liquid with floating electric orbs in it. He’d drink it, vomit it up (where it’d form a floating orb), and then bottle it up, Where the next party member would imbibe it. They’d learned that it was perfectly safe because he’d done this with this bottle “hundreds of times”. They were not reassured. They have no idea what the purpose of this magical drink is. Neither do I. I just wanted to fuck with them and the NPC is totally insane. #TTRPG

I changed jobs and shifts within my company so that I could get more exposure to new equipment and maybe meet some of these new guys that people are always talking about. Did not expect my partner to already call off and leave me alone to work on this stuff. Part of me is happy to be alone but the lazy part of me is cursing my partner for doing this to me on my second day.
