One last change before the RC for 26.4.0: Catodon now handles ActivityPub Articles and Pages properly, rendering html and all, instead of turning them all into Notes and showing them as a CW with the summary as comment, which tbf was pretty ugly. I will gradually make more adjustments so that we are better aligned with ActivityPub.#catodon #sharkey #activitypub

Now that you can actually try it, I think I can start talking a little more about Catodon's features. The timelines are 5:First of all there's obviously Home (which has more timeline filters - you can now switch between following and mutual followers). You can also choose if you want to see replies to others in your timeline, or only to people you follow. And you can choose to merge in the public posts of the local server, which makes it cover the functionality of the (deprecated) "Social" timeline. Then there is the new "Accounts" timeline - which is repidly becoming one of my favourite features. It's based on Sharkey's "Following" page (which has two columns, in the left one there is a list of the accounts who posted more recently, and in the right one you can see each account's posts), but: it's upgraded to an actual timeline next to Home, promoting usage, the two columns are now independent, so you can easily visit many accounts without having to scroll all the time. There's also a search bar at the top of the accounts list, so you can easily find any account you're interested in, even if they haven't posted for a while. And there's pretty good key navigation - which is a different chapter altogether, but I'll just say you can navigate the most used features with arrow-keys or h/j/k/l. I find myself spending more time here recently than on Home - the Home feed on fedi can be pretty chaotic and it's easy to miss posts. This timeline makes it much easier, you can browse the accounts and open only the posts of those you want, or those you have the time for each time.Next is the local timeline - in the first attempt of Catodon I had called this "This server", in order to make it more easily understandable to new users, and I've kept this name, but added this little twist: If the admin sets a "short name" for the server, this timeline takes the name of the server - making it even more descriptive, and allowing admins add a personal touch to their community. Then it's Custom feeds - you might be familiar with Misskey's "Antennas", which is a very cool feature but nobody undestands what they are at first. But practically they are custom feeds - so I named them this way. But this timeline also has Lists in a different tab, which is in a way another custom feed. And, whatever Custom feed or List you have open, the timeline takes its name from that! So if you have a very particular interest, let's say cats (yeah, that was cheap), you can permanently have a "Cats" timeline among the others! And All servers, didn't do much here, I think I added a couple of timeline filters.Oh, also we have the threads in a timeline feature from Firefish, as well as the "grouped reposts"! Instead of having a thread appear like this: 1/4>2/4, 2/4>3/4, 3/4>4/4, which clogs up your timeline, you simply get the full thread: 1/4>2/4>3/4>4/4.I could go on with other features but I think I'd better tame my adhd and stop this here! But to be continued #Catodon
