The Neopets TTRPG situation is dire

Interesting, I literally stopped scrolling cause I had no idea about any of this. Nice vid tho I watched the whole thing. Have definitely felt this way about certain projects and releases before.
I’ve been REALLY good at not getting scammed by a game kickstarter before, but I failed to do my due diligence on this company and this feels like its finally happened to me.

Ive been in the TTRPG Discord since the beginning, and was also an early backer for the Neopets TTRPG Kickstarter. I have also read the playtest in its entirety.
It’s… not good. I don’t just mean the playtest, either, I mean the entire situation around the Kickstarter is really bad. PUBLICLY-DISPLAYED internal fighting among the developers at Geekify, and also the people developing the game have no RPG designers – or at the very least none who have come out publicly as being an actual RPG designer in the 2 years this has been developed.
It’s a very messy debacle and the project manager seems to have no idea what to do about it.
Also, I give my opinions on the actual playtest itself, which is indeed mostly just the D&D open-source rules slightly reworded.
I’ve never made a video where I’m upset before, and I’m always extremely supportive of indie or more-obscure projects like this, but having backed with over $100 and waiting 2 years just to find out the mess this situation is has really gotten to me.
What do you guys think of the situation in general? Do you still feel hopeful for the project? Have you read the playtest and if so what do YOU think?

If it makes you feel better, I have been watching Dino Run 2 make zero movement for like five years and I still paid the five bucks or whatever for the private free roam server file. It ran like shit for everyone but me, the host, and we never played it again but I needed a hit man.

Wow, that sounds rough. I was definitely unaware there was one being made at all… Reworded DND rules sounds really rough too. This feels like a classic case of “it’s best not to start a Kickstarter unless you are already mostly done with the core part of the project that doesn’t take as much time and money”. I.E. having the actual rules in a testable state so the Kickstarter money goes to paying graphic designers, editors, licensing, manufacturing, etc…
Well, I hope someone on the project pulls it together and gets something done for the fans out there.

Didn’t know this was a thing either. Interesting. Excited to watch the video that I presume is summarizing all this drama.

I can only hope that after being called out by the entire community maybe they used some of the rest of that $400,000 on a designer or two. I dont think so, but I have to dream.

Reworded DND rules sounds really rough
What’s even worse about this is that the original Kickstarter pitch said it’d be a classless, points based system. So to then go and just reword D&D is… yea. I’m not convinced anyone in the team actually knows what they’re doing.

I have not watched the video, but from your write up this sounds similar to what happened with Palladium Games’ Robotech mini game kickstarter. I think it is still the most colossal failure of a KS to date.
