I've started reading the transcripts of the "A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs" podcast. I'm up to episode 73, and even though I'm not a huge Elvis fan or anything, I have really grown to fucking loathe Colonel Tom Parker.

@Tim_Eagon I went down a rabbit hole on music history post-WW2 over the last couple of years and seeing how it connects and what pushed music along is fascinating to me.

Has there been any particular episode so far that you think is a standout?

@grayson I found the earlier episodes of the podcast that examined how the antecedents of rock music coalesced in the 30s and 40s to be the most interesting, but that may be because I was never the biggest fan of 50s pop music. The transcripts have kept my interest for sure though and I'm just at the cusp of the 60s (I just finished episode 74, which was about the end of Buddy Holly's career).

@Tim_Eagon Widely regarded as the reason Elvis never played in the UK. Parker didn't dare let him out of his sight, but would have run into trouble if he had accompanied him due to his fabricated identity, so because Parker was afraid to be detained or deported he denied Britain a chance to see Elvis live. All in all, a man with very few redeeming features.

@grayson Each individual episode page has it's own transcript. They have an "episodes" page on their website, but it's in reverse chronological order, so would probably best to start with episode 1 here:

Episode 1: “Flying Home” by the Benny Goodman Sextet

A look at the 1938 classic by Benny Goodman.
