Hi folks. Permacommons is a new initiative to build shared resources with #AI assistance. We're starting with open source software and are hoping to expand into other domains in future.

If you give credence to the idea that AI is a potential job killer at a massive scale, we believe new approaches to building and sustaining our collective future are needed -- beyond basic income.

So far we have published two substantive projects under the Permacommons umbrella. The first one is Chabeau, an open source terminal UI for OpenAI-compatible APIs, written in #Rust.

It's packed with features few other such UIs have (e.g., in-place refinement of messages), and fully in the public domain. You can find it here:

The second project has been around for almost 10 years: https://lib.reviews/ - a free and open source database of (human-written!) reviews. With help from AI coding tools, we've begun an overdue modernization of the codebase before piling on new features. Follow @lib_reviews for updates about the project.
