As a long time roleplayer and game runner, I have a hard time understanding gamers who buy scenarios. I mean, why not just make them up? It's so easy!
I've bought a few useful resource books, such as lists of puzzles or traps or interesting NPCs. But even those are generally very easy to create. I make my own lists and add to them whenever I get an idea. That way if I ever feel at a loss, I can scroll through a list. There's always something good there.
I know that we all have different strengths and weaknesses as DMs. But is it really that hard to create your own material?
I don't know. Maybe I'm being unfair. I'm certainly not spending much money on game materials!

It is not necessarily hard, but it _does_ cost time.
I always create my own adventures, but I do understand those who - due to having full-time jobs and/or other obligations - find that they do not have the time for this.
