@ErikJonker the answer is decentralized individuality. The problem is that the price of each person investing in understanding their reality is higher than people are willing to pay. So they buy stories, because stories are cheap. Simple human behavior, exploited.

So, how can we defend the #Fediverse against this?
Right now, this is not as common here because the Fediverse as a whole has a low profile. But we should not assume that we are immune to this.
