My reread of the Hobbit continues. I forgot how much I liked the cadence the book takes with its storytelling, the way Tolkien gleefully tells you about a future event with a teasing "but that's for later."
Fantasy has definitely gone places since Tolkien, but there's still a lot to appreciate in his style.

@squishymage42 It's like he was telling it to his son as a bedtime story and just wrote down exactly what he said. You expect to read "No Christopher I'll tell you more tomorrow. You need to be up for school in the morning".

@KaraLG84 "Christopher, we'll get there when we get there, just hold on and let me talk about the tree"

@squishymage42 And then at some point he's like ....if we get to the end of it. That's like him saying "Christopher, stop it with your annoying questions. They couldn't use the eagles to take them all the way to the Lonely Mountain because I said so."

@KaraLG84 "That's just how dragons are Christopher, they talk at you and mess with your head"
