I ripped Reddit off my phone.

I ripped Reddit off my phone. Deleted. Erased. Burned from existence. Because the app has become so enshittified it’s not just useless—it’s insulting. Let me spell out why Reddit is a flaming trash heap:
-
Notifications – I told the app a hundred times to stop. It still spammed me. No respect, no control. Just harassment disguised as “engagement.”
-
Gamification – “Congrats! You’re a Top 1% Commenter!” “Wow! You’ve got a streak!” Screw off. I don’t need digital gold stars like I’m in preschool.
-
Auto-play – Scroll near a video and boom, it hijacks your screen and your data plan. Doesn’t matter if you want it or not. Consent is dead.
-
Data hog – Tied to auto-play. Reddit eats bandwidth like a starving hog at a slop bucket. Your bill goes up, they don’t care.
-
Garbage algorithm – Reddit once had a straightforward feed. Now it’s “optimized for engagement,” which really means “designed to shovel outrage, spam, and misery at you until you break.”
-
Targeted ads – These are beyond creepy. Read a single post from a trans user and Reddit suddenly decides you’re transitioning. Next thing you know, it’s shoving femme-contouring underwear ads in your face, as if you personally needed “help with your transition.” It’s invasive and tone deaf.
-
Comment ads – Oh, this is the bottom of the barrel. You’re reading first-hand accounts of tragedy, and then some bank parachutes into the thread to sell you a credit card. It’s corporate sewage dumped straight into the conversation.
-
AI slop – I use AI for editing and dictation. Fine. But Reddit? It’s drowning in AI garbage posts—zero effort, zero originality, pure sludge. And somehow those float to the top.
-
Karma farmers – Legions of parasites reposting the same crap, plagiarizing comments, hoarding fake internet points. It reeks of bot farms and shady manipulation.
-
Spam apocalypse – Political spam. Crypto spam. Porn spam. Comment spam. Chat spam. The whole site is a meat grinder of spam.
So yeah, I ditched it.
What replaces Reddit for me? Lemmy and Piefed. On iOS, I use Voyager for Lemmy. In Safari, I use Piefed to manage communities. They’re cleaner, faster, and give me what Reddit no longer can: quality over quantity.
Reddit’s giant userbase means nothing if the experience is a pile of corporate dogshit. I’d rather have smaller communities that actually work than wade through the endless sludge Reddit has become.

@atomicpoet I used to use Reddit through the RIF app. When the app-ocalypse happened, I found Lemmy and through that, the Fediverse and now I'm here. Their app has always been garbage, and they pushed to make it even worse, and ruin the web interface too. I've stopped completely actually using the platform back then, and nowadays if I want or need to see something there, I do it logged off through old.reddit, and only as long as they don't kill that avenue too. I've met many of my online friends of many years through reddit but you could not pay me to get back in there. -

ikeacurtains I’m telling you, Voyager for Lemmy is awesome.
