Interesting bit about vampire lore. A stake through the heart does not necessarily kill a vampire, but it will completely immobilize the vampire until the stake is removed. And much like a splinter will work its way out gradually over several weeks, the stake can push out over some decades. My working hypothesis is that the boom mic operator was trampled by a horse right as filming started and they didn't realize that there was no in scene audio recorded.
