      Definitely. I mean, there is only so much you can do with compound words in English - but for German humor, it's central.

        @juergen_hubert I was thinking more in terms of humour types that are transferrable between languages, like double entendre. I guess the question I'm asking is: do you have a split personality

          Not really. To me, this is basically another form of code switching. You know the way you talk differently when you are interacting with either friends, family, or co-workers?

          This is the same thing, only on a larger scale. Jokes and humor that would work for one target audience would fall flat for the other.
