Word of advice: if you don’t like a dev, and you don’t want people using their project, there are only three constructive paths:
- suggest an alternative
- start an alternative
- fork an alternative
For example, I had serious concerns about Soapbox and the developer behind it. So did plenty of others. What happened? Someone forked it into Mangane, and now I use it with Akkoma. Problem solved, need still met.
What you shouldn’t do is tell people that the need itself isn’t viable and shouldn’t be attempted. All that does is push them back toward walled gardens owned by X or Meta. It doesn’t help anyone move toward the Fediverse.
At the very least, if someone asks about alternatives, offer actual, actionable advice.
