It would be so cool if instead of saying things like "I've reached 7,000 followers" Fedi was the kind of place where people celebrated how many folks they are connected with.

Everyone wants to be heard, but are you listening in return?
Connections. Genuine interactions. Appreciation.
@AngelaPreston Well I'm with you 100% here: https://mas.to/@miblo/114682940311286681

@AngelaPreston Truly love fedi for my feed being a bunch of cool folks, and not celebrities or companies or whatnot!

@90sScriptKiddiw Me too! But every now and then a post crosses my feed where someone is kind of....humble bragging? About their follower count. It really stands out because it's not nearly as common here as other places, and it just makes me feel like a cat that got a pat in the wrong direction.

@AngelaPreston I'm very reluctant to follow accounts that have a lot of followers but follow very few themselves. I don't want to be in a herd listening to a shepherd. I want a discussion among equals.

@useravoiding Exactly. There are times I'm happy to be in an audience, but here in the Fediverse I'm looking for something a little different.

@AngelaPreston
I never hear anything about followers on Fedi, unless it’s from a recent bsky or birdsite refugee. -

@AngelaPreston I don't pay attention to the numbers, or the follows:follower ratios, or any of that.
I just appreciate the handful of friends I interact with regularly on here.

@RxBrad Right? It's not about being some kind of influencer. It's about making connections and exchanging ideas.

@useravoiding @AngelaPreston I worried that someone would get that perception from me since I only follow 300, so I tried to explain in my intro and I’ve wondered if others have a similar take. I don’t mind following someone who’s content I enjoy who may not have the bandwidth to be truly conversational with everyone as long as they seem open to connecting. For me, between a minor brain injury & dyslexia it’s harder to keep track of more than I do. I hate when you guys change your avatars. LOL

@Pineywoozle I respect that! Setting clear expectations is something most people could do better at and you have done a nice job of it here.
(I feel you on the changing of the pics. It's thrown me more than once. That said, I'm looking at my current one and realizing I should probably change it to something more current. Still "me," probably, but am up-to-date me)
