    We have a walnut tree. It's having an amazingly productive year. It sounds like softballs hitting the metal shed and roof of the house. They are soft enough I'm not really worried about damage, but man it is loud and startling.

      @AngelaPreston what do you have to do to prepare them for storage and eating? Did you plant the tree yourself?

        @AngelaPreston We had a similar year with our chincopin! Usually the squirrels get everything, but this year we harvested maybe a gallon of chestnuts, just from what we found lying on the ground.

        (It seems to be done now, as of about a week ago.)

          @anne It was here when we moved in! We have never harvested them for ourselves; there are a lot of squirrels here. But maybe this year will be the year since there are so many.
