I got my Pomera DM250US today. I’ve only had it for a little bit, but so far I really like it.
It isn’t perfect, but I expect I’ll be using this to write for a long time. -

@NullNowhere pomera dm250us? what is that?
@equilibrium@urusai.social Basically a digital typewriter from a Japanese company. They recently released a version with a US keyboard. Its a simple device and a bit excessive, but I like these kind of things.

@NullNowhere @equilibrium What do you write on them?

@yon@sakurajima.moe @equilibrium@urusai.social fiction, game notes, and since this one has a rudimentary password system (4-8 characters only!? What the hell?) I will journal on it too.
It’s just nice to have a distraction free environment. I have some mechanical typewriters, and I use those to write letters to friends.
I do wish this kind of device was open source. I would love to use this with like, vim and implement file-level encryption. Oh well. Supposedly you can load Linux on it but the guides are all in Japanese. -

@NullNowhere @yon 4-8 characters!
@equilibrium@urusai.social @yon@sakurajima.moe I don’t understand it.
But with homegrown Japanese devices I’ve come to expect that you’ll get a cool device but you will be obligated to find at least 1-2 design decisions that are completely nonsensical and unnecessary. Such is the way of things.

@NullNowhere @yon ohhh, i just get it. is it because the way kanji work? you know how kanji writing is always so cramped. 1 or 2 kanji letter can mean long complex things. maybe thats why they limit their password character to 4-8 characters.

@equilibrium@urusai.social @yon@sakurajima.moe If it is because of Kanji, It still doesn't make sense as this is supposed to be the U.S. version of the device. Maybe they just couldn't be bothered to update 2-3 lines of code...
