@panmanphil @carsten The strike is designed to show economic impact. People can't vote at the ballot so they vote with their dollars. Business closing voluntarily show solidarity. Business that stay open risk outing themselves as accomplices.

The Target boycott caused their sales to drop about 2% and the executives took a beating.Personally I will close my business for a week. And I do not accept government orders anymore.

#trump appears to WANT a violent reaction. That would give him an excuse to declare martial law. He wants to suppress all democratic voting.
Therefore, apart from government representatives doing their job properly, or maybe a military coup, general strike appears the only obvious way to resist.
