Observations from a Canadian visiting New Zealand:
-
More NZ signs that are extremely honest
Honesty is certainly the best policy.

@sundogplanets I love the rubbish dumping one. Actually I thought of doing something like that autonomously but insulting litterers in rhyme.

@sundogplanets "tosser" is a nice piece of wordplay.
-
@sundogplanets I love so much the dumping rubbish one!

@adelinej @sundogplanets Me too! Good idea for our mayor to copy.

@sundogplanets I imagine you can reuse the "Don't be a tosser" sign in your presentations

@sundogplanets The precautionary ones just make sense. The clearer the better!
(Honestly, the same goes for the rubbish one - if you canโt think of that yourself you obviously got kind of a thick skull)

@sundogplanets the dumping one is epic

If you like the signs, there are also some classic TV adverts you should check out.For example 'blazed', by the incomparable Taika Waititi:

@sundogplanets also keep an eye out once you get on the south Island, lots of crazy road signs there

@sundogplanets Our motel welcome folder in Whitianga had instructions for actions after a tsunami warning. "Drive north out of town, then uphill. We will see you there, we will not be staying."

@oseiler @sundogplanets he really is, though sometimes at other places it's his colleagues. I saw a colleague on the way to Angelus Hut.

@va2lam good to know - haven't been there yet

@va2lam @sundogplanets it was a really good thing when I took the kids up and we'd stop and got the youngest to do the Bas check.
On the other hand I've seen way too many mountain runners without any gear and their exhausted kids in tow or tourists starting late with a predicted incoming weather change who had no idea about that, and especially the northern approach features plenty of cliffs not too far from the track.
It seems they've found a good balance with these signs. -

@sundogplanets I'm pretty sure I've run into the Kฤkฤ at the nightclub*
*alt txt may have missed the part where they become "confident" in "breeding season"

@sundogplanets I really enjoyed the signs in NZ when I visited 25 years ago. This was a personal favorite.

The do not swim here posters at Napier are also fun. We didn't see the tsunami posters there but we did as Kaikoura. -
@sundogplanets As a French person, I canโt tell you how funny it is to read โbig biteโ and โbreeding seasonโ on the same poster.
@Sylvhem @sundogplanets careful. the big bird will big beak you with its big bite
