The rest of us do not have an encyclopedic memory of the 62 counties of your state. I don’t even remember all the ones in my state.

@equilibrium@urusai.social It's a local administrative unit below a full state and above a city. You might call it is district.
The state of New York has over 60 of them. My experience with talking with people from New York is they won't introduce with a specific town or whatever, they'll say like "I'm from Essex county in New York", and that means nothing to anyone except those who are very familiar with the organization of New York.
