Many, MANY years ago I was doing some genealogy research - on Microfiche, at the local library. Reading late 1800's era editions of the local newspaper.
I got distracted reading about a summer of rabies. The goose that stopped a rabid dog from entering a yard, but lost its life in the process.
Folks going to watch a rabid horse as entertainment. (It was a cruel time)

@Da_Gut I imagine that lots of libraries that extensive archives have a bunch of those machines, unless they digitized them.
