There are a LOT of people in that thread saying they don't bother with games that score low, so I'm putting it next to my comment from a couple days ago about how games that actively abandon their core audience never generate the positive word of mouth required to reach the larger gaming audience and waggling my eyebrows suggestively

I'm just sayin', there's a *SIGNIFICANT* portion of the gaming world that has no real genre preference, doesn't have the time to play everything that comes out, and doesn't have a huge amount of money. So they only pick up titles that really get that buzz. Disappoint the people that show up for love of the genre and you'll go absolutely nowhere.

@CactuarJoe scores are outmoded anyway. Implies objective reviewing which doesn't exist. (I will die on this hill)

As this forum thread goes on I'm taking special note of all the people saying "I don't pay attention to reviews because I think for myself" AND ALSO "I don't play games outside my chosen genre/routine MMOs & gachas & whatnots until they get widespread positive word of mouth"

Also special shoutout to the people going "Most people just use reviews to justify their existing beliefs" because yeah, that's why I stopped writing them

but you know YOU don't have to use them that way right? Like, that's not their INHERENT purpose, that's just how a lot of people use them?

You know that, right?
