A friend is using Claude to pump out a game system and he’s pretty excited about his progress.

…and I’m just not really interested in his work as a result. Maybe there are some good ideas but ‍️ it just feels inauthentic to me.

@NullNowhere ....ai?....if I was making my own game the only thing I'd use ai for is to see how my ideas would play out, help with picking matching colors, or use it for help with bugs. I would research how to fix etc but if I struggle I would only use ai as a last resort! And I dont blame ya, if I heard it was ai and not someone's craft, I'd not want to see it etc.

@Hydrangea@sakurajima.moe I wasn’t specific. It’s a tabletop rpg rule system, think like Dungeons and Dragons. He’s using Claude (an LLM, like ChatGPT) to do a lot of the writing.

He estimates about 2/3rd of the writing is done by the LLM. He keeps asking me to review and give feedback, but I don’t really care to review or improve the output of a machine.

This stuff is a kind of art to me, so using a machine to do large swathes of it feels gross to me.

@NullNowhere I would only use ai for help or to see how things would play out as I don't have much friends anyway! And plus I wouldn't rlly publish what I made with ai without heavy tweaks, and flavor of my personality in it! And best part? No one would read what I made with ai as its not gonna get published anywhere and its only for me to read.

@Hydrangea@sakurajima.moe if you posted something here I would probably browse through it. I browse through most systems or writing people post just because I am curious and like to see what people are doing.

I hope you don’t feel discouraged from showing your creative endeavors. There are lots of nice people on the fediverse. I personally believe that creative endeavors, and the ability to share it are fundamental things to being happier.

A basic notion I feel like would be useful to talk about is how links work, and how many times the links people carelessly share (with utm_source and other query parameters) are used to create webs of association to learn things about you even when you guard your privacy well.

You may also talk about threat modeling in privacy. It's kinda important to understand who the actors are, what they're doing with your information, and what the worst case scenario is for you. I think most people just see these services as faceless and have never really thought about where it can lead in ~5 years.

Regarding Fedi, this is where it’s important to model. Fedi isn’t a part of the advertising world, but also, one of the weaknesses of the protocol is that private messages are not end-to-end encrypted, meaning admins and possibly mods (not sure how this is implemented on Mastodon etc) could find your messages. So if I had something truly sensitive to say, I probably would not say it over Fedi.
