    🔥 Big update: the PeerTube co-op idea is taking off.

    Yesterday I shared the proposal publicly—and the response has been outstanding. Seven people have already stepped up to become founder-members, ready to build a member-owned, democratically governed alternative to corporate video platforms.

    What started as a loose idea is now a real plan—and credit goes to Crissy Kuchisabishii Geco 🇨🇦 for pushing me to turn the idea into a proper proposal.

    We’re at the early stages: talking with existing Fediverse co-ops, and I’ve reached out to the BC Co-op Association to guide us through incorporation. Next up: drafting bylaws, shaping governance, and laying a solid foundation together.

    Once incorporated, member-owners will decide everything—policies, hosting practices, monetization models. This isn’t just another social media platform. It’s a co-operative effort to build something transparent, resilient, and ours.

    If this speaks to you—if you want to help shape a new, community-owned video platform—get in touch. This is how alternatives get built.

        @atomicpoet @Crissy I've been making YouTube videos for nearly ten years now. I'm interested, where can I learn more?

          @atomicpoet @Crissy Is your Youtube alternative going to have a dislike button and will it never remove that button? Youtube removed their dislike button.

            @harmone @Crissy Good question—PeerTube already has support for likes and dislikes, but whether we keep, modify, or expand that will ultimately be up to the member-owners.

            I’m not dictating platform features. Decisions like that will be made collectively once the co-op is incorporated.

              @joshsjunkdrawer @Crissy That’s awesome to hear—your experience will be valuable here.

              We’re still in the early stages: gathering founding member-owners, talking with co-op associations for legal guidance, and laying out governance structures. If you want to stay in the loop, DM me your email or best contact info and I’ll make sure you get updates as things develop.

              In the meantime, you can check out the proposal slide deck here:

                @taatm @Crissy @emory That’s great to hear—thank you.

                Right now, the proposed model is a one-time $50 membership fee plus a $5.95 monthly subscription to sustain the co-op. Once incorporated, member-owners will collectively decide on pricing models (including optional tiers).

                If you’re interested in being part of that conversation, DM me your contact info so I can loop you in.
