    Dark Sun subclasses in today’s UA. Interesting. Not a fan of the preserver or defiler implementations, but it was nice to see the Sorcerer King pact Warlock back, one of 4e Dark Sun’s best innovations.

      @Tim_Eagon
      My main concern is that they might water down the setting. Dark Sun is the *opposite* of cozy and inclusive, and I doubt WotC has the courage to use this to say "imperialism, slavery, and environmental destruction are all really bad" today.

      Remember, this is the same WotC that thought the villainous and racist Scarlet Brotherhood needed to be renamed the "Scarlet Order" to be less sexist. >_>

        @Tim_Eagon Defiling is my definition of an advanced design challenge. It’s really hard to do. I actually don’t favor it as a subclass concept and like it better as a thing any arcane caster can do with a cost and benefit.

          @Alphastream @Tim_Eagon if it’s not universally available, then it’s not a temptation and loses much of its thrust.

            @frequentbeef @Alphastream @Tim_Eagon
            Really, I doubt today's WotC would have the courage to actually examine themes like temptation and environmental destruction.

              @frequentbeef @Alphastream I agree. And preserving should still be arcane-based, not druidic. That just screws up the themes of Dark Sun IMO.

                @pteryx @frequentbeef @Alphastream Then they probably shouldn't do Dark Sun!

                  @Tim_Eagon FWIW, I did Druids, Clerics, and Templars all as types of Warlock for 5.14. I'll see if I can spruce them up for blogging.

                    @Tim_Eagon @frequentbeef Druids as elemental and wizards/sorc as preserving/defiling makes a ton more sense.
