People keep asking me for an elevator pitch for the Federated Video Co-op Initiative. So here it is:
YouTube is broken: creators get demonetized randomly, viewers get fed garbage by algorithms, and nobody has a voice. We’re fixing it with federated video—owned collectively by creators, viewers, and backers. You control your corner, but everyone stays connected.

Is there a monetization alternative to the pittance now available from Youtube's business model? Has anyone in federated video found out how to get paid, get viewers, etc, or is this now just "forever on spec"?

Extinction Studies Monetization is already on the table, but step one is incorporation. Once we exist legally, we secure financial stability through dues and subscriptions. After that comes paying creators, likely through something Patreon-adjacent that doesn’t treat them like disposable content faucets.

@atomicpoet is this built on something like peertube?

Mark Crocker Peertube is the first platform we’ll be rolling out. Other federated video platforms may follow.
There is no web site because we’re still in the pre-incorporation phase, but we have a steering committee assembled. If you want to know more, see the sticky at the top of my profile.
