Player excitedly acquires spell that makes him a large melee tank for a short period. Against a huge creature, he uses it, preparing to hold off the enemy while the back line peppers it to death. The monster needs to roll a 18 or higher to hit in this form. He feels safe.
Smelling a wizard’s hubris, in a single round the dice dish out 3 hits, two of which are critical, all of them for nearly maximum damage.
After thoroughly pulping the wizard tank in one round and dropping him unconscious, the enemy proceeds to reap havoc on the back line until the champion can finish his opponent and save the bard from discovering more about the color of his insides.
Another week of me rolling well enough that the players think that the mooks are boss monsters I don’t know how I am supposed to balance combat anymore. #TTRPG
