When I first joined the Fediverse I was worried that I would *not* be able to stay on top of current events and news.
I've gladly been proven wrong.
In fact, I often see news before anyone else I know sees it, and it usually comes from credible, easy-to-access sources (and even links that folks have taken the time to put into the Archive so they aren't paywalled).
This week, thanks to #404Media I was even able to share an article with a local organizer that gave further strength to their cause. My group is supportive of their effort to put a pause on integrating cameras in this city into larger networks (even though there are at least 19 Flock-listed ones on one of our highway bypasses).
Thank you, folks who share #news here! It makes a difference, sometimes in ways you didn't even expect.
Here's their project:
The Lawrence Transparency Project
A nonpartisan civic initiative calling for transparency and public input on surveillance technology in Lawrence, Kansas. Formed after the quiet approval of the Fusus platform without community discussion.
