It's sillier than that...
It's because they think one day they will be the rich (the American Dream) and don't want to tax the rich cos one day it'll be them....
It's a bit of the same stupidity of buying Lottery tickets with 1 in 6000000 chance of winning and they are fed this nonsense with their mothers milk ...Sadly it's catching on more and more in Europe .... Particularly the UK
