The library I work at is routinely vandalized, inside and out. Furniture is slashed, books containing anything about sexuality or left US politics get the bindings slashed right there on the shelf, the wires to the automatic faucets in the bathrooms get cut, people have defecated in front of the building, and this last Friday night, someone slashed six tires on five of the cars parked here. This is why I park a few blocks away if I can't get a space watched by a camera.

Vandalism isn't new, but it used to be rare, and generally the random act of someone pissed off at the world, taking it out on whatever was easy. Since the run-up to Trump's 1st term, not only has the vandalism increased tremendously, but it's much more severe than it ever was. Noone has been directly assaulted, yet, but there have been threats. I carry pepper spray, a telescoping baton, and brass knuckles on me when walking to and from my vehicle because it's only a matter of time.

Being a tall, big, bald, CIS, straight, white guy, I'm a far less likely target than most of my co-workers because the offenders are generally insecure cowards. Still, it's a concern.
It's just not a position I ever thought I would find libraries to be in.
I'm not going anywhere in particular with this. It's just something that's on my mind.
