When I grew up playing #DnD even my own mother thought it was connected to Satan.

@bedirthan I was very lucky not to get caught in the Satanic Panic. My father bought my D&D boxes for me (along with other great games like Mechwarrior and Robotech).

@audreygwinter @bedirthan My parents (mostly my Dad) thought it was mainly a waste of money, but never Satanic. I remember my Mom dismissing concerns about the game from another parent, though this would've been in the late 80s, after the height of the moral panic.

@Tim_Eagon @audreygwinter my dad hosted many of our D&D sleepovers and all day events.
My mom eventually understood, but even then it was reluctant.

@bedirthan @audreygwinter one of my friends in late elementary, early middle school was the son of a non-denominational pastor and I couldn't bring any of my D&D books over to his house, even if I left them in my backpack.

@Tim_Eagon @bedirthan @audreygwinter I somehow missed any direct contact with the panic. My friends and I were all aware of it, but our parents let us host weekend long sleepovers for games. My aunt would take me to her game, and my friends' parents would let them come to. The bigger concern was most of our peers considered us nerds or weird for playing it and we wanted to avoid bullying.
