Every so often I glance at mainstream social media—which is seemingly dominated by Americans.

And something that always distresses me is how many people are obsessed with putting themselves in boxes—then otherizing people who fit outside their box.

This isn’t just a phenomena with American conservatives but liberals too. To the point where the division seems less to do with values and more to do with tribalism.

While all the internal division is going on, Americans seem oblivious to the havoc they’re causing to people living outside their borders.

@atomicpoet I'll pile on, we're oblivious to the havoc we're causing to people living here too.

Just a little defensiveness while I am here, for my whole 66 year life I've never seen the rest of the West trying so desperately to appear different.

        That's good, I suppose.

@star Lets be real. The northern hemisphere includes many countries—not necessarily “the West”. And this is something worth considering since, you know, where Greenland is located.

@CartyBoston The country I live in, while not perfect, is different—though Americans may try to change that soon.

@star You mean colonialism? Sure. But I’m not talking about empires. Rather, people and places that are targets for imperialism.
