I really enjoy urban fantasy and get a little miffed that it's mostly in a down swing as far as traditional publishing is concerned. McGuire and Butcher being the main exceptions. So I've been using this list and some other stuff to try and visit the origins. I've read about half this list and have really enjoyed it.

I've actually got a funny story about one of the books on the McGuire list.
Back in my first year out of law school, the boss paid me every Friday, and I went straight to the bookstore with my paycheck.
One Friday, I show up to my weekly splurge, and it happens to be a signing by @jimhines for the third Magic Ex Libris (Libriomancer) book. I ended up buying every book of his they had in stock. He's now an author I eagerly recommend to friends because he was also just a cool guy.

@Da_Gut The urban vs modern divide is actually one of the things I'm working through as I read, I see this thing or that referred on one side or the other.
My favorite that I read because of this list so far is Tanya Huff's Keeper series. That was a fun one. Loved the keeper cats.
Actually reading my first de Lint right now. Liking Newford so far.
