Man I also need new ones. I have a pair of 1More ComfoBuds and they’re quite possibly the all-time worst product I’ve ever owned.

You know what? I had 1MORE ComfoBuds Pro haha (which broke because I fucked up the charging pins in the charging case, which eh, fair enough, my fault), and now own 1MORE Aero (got them on sale for like 65€)

I don’t find them bad, but they have some small problems that get annoying. I believe I can find better

Why do you find them bad?

I’m searching for a community talking about wireless (bluetooth) earbuds, thanks!

If no specific ones, audio hardware related ones might do if you have recommendations

I’m looking for reviews of some products and recommendations to make a good choice, and see what people are using

I’m really happy with my shure aonic earbuds, but I specifically wanted one that hooks over the ear. May be overkill for everyday use, but they’re nice.

        Let’s make a list:

        • They frequently get a bug where when you pause video playback they stop working despite being connected, where the only fix is restarting them (not disconnecting and reconnecting but hard reboot). Which you can only do by putting them back in the charging case and waiting 5 seconds for them to turn off, then reconnecting.
        • They frequently only connect one of the buds, which you again can only rectify by restarting them.
        • They frequently don’t turn off and connect to the charging case so you have to open and close the lid multiple times to make sure it works. Yes, I’ve cleaned the contacts charging pins that isn’t the issue.
        • Sometimes they turn off but don’t charge, so when you connect them after having them in the case overnight they’re at 10% battery.
        • The tap-and-hold surface to switch between noise cancelling/transparency mode/off is super sensitive and frequently a drop of water or sweat or stray strand of hair will toggle the mode. Happens a lot when exercising and is super annoying.
        • Sometimes when they’re in the closed charging case and supposedly off my phone will randomly connect to them while walking by.
        • Finally, one of them actually just stopped working the other day while I was running. I guess they’re not sweat proof? That could be a user issue though maybe they explicitly said not to use them while exercising.

I think there was probably some other issue with them I’ve forgotten tbh. I might have just gotten a defective unit though who knows. This is the only 1More product I’ve used so YMMV and don’t take it as gospel.

          Check out the Earphün brand.

I found them from a discussion somewhere on Lemmy, and they’re really good for the price.

Earfun Free Pro 3 review: they’re not perfect, but they’re cheap and cheery

          Great value affordable earbuds

          About $80

For me the battery lasts a LONG time (all day listening to music.

I’d give the noise canceling a score of about 8.5/10 - it works well, but can’t block everytjing, very loud sounds still make it through, though really reduced.

To their credit, they “just work”, every time, even connected to multiple devices. They switch between devices pretty seamlessly.

Seems annoying. Never got that with both, what I did get was occasional (1/2 per month, with daily usage of multiple hours) audio desync which required being put in the case

They frequently only connect one of the buds, which you again can only rectify by restarting them.

Never got that, but understandably annoying

They frequently don’t turn off and connect to the charging case so you have to open and close the lid multiple times to make sure it works.

Got that as well with the ComfoBuds Pro, it seems to be related to the charging pins not always working (maybe also because I fucked with them like I said earlier), which I often prevented by pushing on the earbuds head when put in the case to ensure contact.

This issue did not happen (yet?) with the ComfoBuds Aero. The charging pins are at a different location and I didn’t touch them to prevent any damaging

Not sure how the contacts are related. I didn’t give them access to the contacts anyway I believe

Sometimes they turn off but don’t charge, so when you connect them after having them in the case overnight they’re at 10% battery.

This did happen once for me but it’s related to the previous problem

The tap-and-hold surface to switch between noise cancelling/transparency mode/off is super sensitive and frequently a drop of water or sweat or stray strand of hair will toggle the mode. Happens a lot when exercising and is super annoying.

I don’t do sport with it nor have long hair so it doesn’t happen for me but yea, the controls were shitty and too sensitive, changing modes when I changed their position in my ear. It’s less sensitive on the Aero, but they sometimes randomly don’t work (like it only works for the left or right earbud sometimes)

Sometimes when they’re in the closed charging case and supposedly off my phone will randomly connect to them while walking by.

            Charging pins might be fucked

Finally, one of them actually just stopped working the other day while I was running. I guess they’re not sweat proof? That could be a user issue though maybe they explicitly said not to use them while exercising.

I remember them not having a super strong waterproof rating so it could be the case

Did these issues always happen or did they start to appear more recently? How long did you have these for? I know earbuds have a rather short lifespan, generally lasts about 2-3 years, which is even the case with more pricey earbuds I believe. Compared to the price and sound quality overall, I knew there would be some tradeoffs but I believe I’ll keep using 1MORE because the competition is just so much more expensive. I was even surprised good earbuds aren’t like 50€, like really, those things are tiny and not super technical

More or less all of the issues were there from the start. I might have just gotten a lemon, though, like I said. The issues haven’t really gotten any better or worse over time. Except for the one that broke the other day, obviously.

                Charging pins might be fucked

I maybe used the wrong terms above but that’s what I meant by cleaning contacts. I think that was swenglish. I’ve cleaned the charging pins with contact cleaner, still wonky. Might just be fucked from the factory though.

Yeah this is the worst thing tbh. I’m stingy as fuck so I don’t want to put hundreds of euros on earbuds, and when they work the ComfoBuds were great for the price point.

that’s what I meant by cleaning contacts

Oh, that makes much more sense

I’m starting to believe it’s a mix of bad luck + they had some sort of design failure because we both had the same thing fail.

The contacts / charging pins / however you call them did get dirty and started to develop blue or green things on them? Can’t really remember what it was but it was a bit gross indeed.

I believe you’re using Android? On iOS, the 1MORE buds have additional problems, like the lowest volume level being too high or the app struggling to connect. Some of this still happens on Android from my tests but is much more reliable overall. Sound quality also seems to sound better, like more immersive, on Android
