When I was born, it was into a house with a big white tough-guy cat. When I was six, we got a tortie kitten, and their introduction to each other was a memorable clash of your first and third options:

Big White: Rrrr! *hiss* RRROW!...

Tortie Kitten: And a happy shiny day to you too!

Big White: OMG I can't intimidate this kitten!!! *hides under bed for two weeks*
