Human nature is as profane as it is sublime. The devils and angels are not on our shoulders, they are in our guts, our blood and bone. If you wish humanity to be sacred you must cultivate that .

#ttrpg #philosophy #worldbuilding@Jackgiantkiller we also have solid evidence spanning 10,000s of years that we were mostly egalitarian, mostly communal, and mostly supportive of one another UP UNTIL we grouped up into larger societies which required "governors" or "managers" or "leaders" of some kind, which threw gasoline on the fires of higher ape impulses and led us to where we are now.
We are much better people than we realize. The indigenous folks teach us this. We change based on our surroundings.

@milkman76 one of the problems is that those higher impulses don't always translate automatically to the larger scale. Not everyone is seen as people. But we can work toward it .

@Jackgiantkiller totally. There is research that shows the human brain gets weird when contemplating big numbers of things, and has an easier time "comparing than counting", I think is how it goes. This has implications for how people contemplate all of this.
I cant find the exact science Im talking about on the internet right now... lol... of course. there was one study in particular that discussed that mechanism vs large societies.

@milkman76 Indeed. There's research that suggests that only about 100 to 120 people count as distinct people in our brains, everyone else fits into a category, a classification.
