Atari 2600 games have held up better than NES games.
That statement will piss off Millennials but it’s so true.
Let’s take Adventure. The objective is obvious. You can pick it up, play it immediately. A good time will be had.
Now consider Final Fantasy. The objective has to be explained to you. You’re not in the action immediately. A good time will be had only if you tolerate the constant grinding and milquetoast story.
“But Mario—“
Super Mario Bros. is rough. You can’t even move to the left.
You know what’s not rough? Frogger. It’s so good, Crossy Road pretty much copied it.
Perhaps I’m cherry-picking. But here’s what I notice with kids nowadays. They can enjoy Dig Dug. It’s hard for them to enjoy Castlevania.
The SNES, on the other hand? I think that holds up better than the NES.
